This Privacy Policy describes how Spirit Level ("the App", "we", "us") collects,
uses, and shares information when you use our Android application. By using the App, you agree
to the practices described in this policy.
1. Information We Collect
Spirit Level is designed to respect your privacy. The App collects or processes the following categories of information:
-
Sensor data (device-only): The App reads data from your device's accelerometer
and gyroscope to calculate tilt and angle. This data is processed entirely on your device and
is never transmitted to us or any server.
-
Photos (optional, device-only): If you choose to attach a photo to a saved
measurement, the image is stored locally on your device. Photos are never
uploaded to us, and are only shared if you explicitly choose to share or export them.
-
Measurement data (device-only): Saved measurements (angles, surface names,
notes, timestamps) are stored in a local database on your device using Android Room. This data never
leaves your device unless you explicitly export it (as CSV or PDF) using the share feature.
-
Advertising identifier & usage data: The App uses Google AdMob to display
advertisements. The Google Mobile Ads SDK collects your device's Advertising ID,
IP address, and limited app-interaction data for the purpose of serving and measuring ads.
This is handled by Google in accordance with the
Google Privacy Policy.
2. App Permissions Explained
The App requests the following Android permissions:
-
CAMERA — Required for the AR Level overlay feature and for attaching photos
to measurements. The camera is only active while these features are in use.
-
READ / WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE — Used only to save and read measurement
photos on older devices (Android 9 and earlier). Not used on newer Android versions.
-
INTERNET & ACCESS_NETWORK_STATE — Required by the Google AdMob SDK
to load and display advertisements.
-
VIBRATE — Used to provide haptic feedback when the device reaches level.
-
Advertising ID — Used by Google AdMob to deliver and measure advertisements.
3. How We Use Information
We use information in the following ways:
- To provide the spirit level, AR overlay, angle calculator, and measurement-saving features.
- To generate PDF and CSV reports at your request, for you to export and share.
- To display advertisements through Google AdMob, which helps fund free access to the App.
We do not sell your personal data. We do not operate any backend server that
receives your measurement data, sensor readings, or photos.
4. Third-Party Services
The App integrates the following third-party services:
-
Google AdMob — Displays banner, interstitial, native, and app-open
advertisements. Subject to the
Google Privacy Policy
and
AdMob policies.
-
Google Play Services — Used internally by the AdMob SDK for ad delivery
and device identification.
You can reset or limit ad personalisation at any time from your device under
Settings → Google → Ads.
5. Data Retention & Deletion
All measurement data and photos are stored locally on your device. You can delete individual
measurements from within the App at any time, or clear all of them using the in-app controls
on the Saved Measurements screen.
Uninstalling the App removes all locally stored data, including the measurement database
and any photos saved by the App.
6. Children's Privacy
Spirit Level is not directed at children under 13 years of age. We do not knowingly collect
personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal
information, please contact us and we will take steps to delete it.
7. Security
Because your measurement data is stored locally on your device, its security is governed by your
device's own protections (screen lock, encryption, etc.). We recommend keeping your device
software up to date and using a secure screen lock.
8. Your Rights
You have the right to:
- Access and delete all data the App stores locally, at any time, using in-app controls.
- Reset or limit ad personalisation via your device's advertising settings.
- Contact us with any privacy-related questions or requests.
9. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be reflected on this page
with an updated effective date. Continued use of the App after changes constitutes your
acceptance of the revised policy.
